Once a month at Moten Elementary School in Southeast, D.C. and in 28 other elementary schools east of the river, families can get free groceries.

Metro logged more than a million and a half rides during President Donald J. Trump’s inauguration on Friday and Saturday’s Women’s March on Washington. Many of the riders were visitors from out of town, who no longer need the plastic, electronic-chip-equipped SmarTrip cards they purchased for the weekend.

Throngs of people were in town for the inauguration of Donald J. Trump Friday and the Women’s March on Washington Saturday, and a lot of them bought Metro cards. Metro estimates nearly 2 million passenger trips between both days, with most of those trips taken using Metrorail.
So what about the SmarTrip cards out-of-towners no longer need?

Families everywhere struggle with impossible choices when it comes to feeding their children. Parents wonder: Can I find something fast and healthful at the corner store, since the supermarket is two bus rides away? Are my children sufficiently nourished?
