The Grocery Access Program, which Lyft announced yesterday, is in partnership with Martha’s Table, a nonprofit organization based in D.C. that helps provide families with healthy food, clothing and education. The program will specifically offer families living in Wards 7 and 8, which only have three grocery stores available, discounted shared Lyft rides.

Martha’s Table, a local food access and education nonprofit, is teaming up with ride-hailing company Lyft to combat a glaring grocery store access issue in Wards 7 and 8. Dubbed the Lyft Grocery Access Program, the initiative will provide qualifying families with $2.50 flat fare rides to three grocery stores and markets east of the Anacostia River.

To qualify for the six-month pilot program, families must have a child enrolled in one of seven elementary schools.

Air Canada is opening a pop-up “Poutinerie” at 1351 Connecticut Avenue NW from Nov. 9 to Nov. 15, and will donate proceeds to D.C. nonprofit Martha’s Table.
