Pumpkin Spice and Everything Nice at the Joyful Pumpkin Patch!

On Saturday, September 28, Martha’s Table took its Joyful Food Markets to a new level with our first-ever Joyful Pumpkin Patch! Over 1,000 people gathered for a festive day filled with joy, connection, and generosity, celebrating the season and the strength of our community.

As part of our Joyful Food Markets initiative, each guest left with groceries valued at over $150, ensuring that families not only went home with fresh food but also with full hearts. This event was more than just a pop-up market—it was a celebration of the deep bond between Martha’s Table and our Anacostia neighbors.

The festivities featured a lively pumpkin patch where families picked pumpkins and enjoyed fall-themed activities. Chef Jojo, Food Jonzie, and Chef Herb held live cooking demonstrations, showcasing how to turn fresh ingredients into nutritious, family-friendly meals, including samples of pumpkin soup, pumpkin-spiced jerk chicken wings, and more!

Fresh Energy Wellness provided fun and nutritious activities for the kids, and Love and Carrots gave garden tours and showed children how to harvest fresh carrots from our very own garden. DJ Zyon, Kurlou Reggae All-Stars, and Derrick Stubbs brought the energy, providing music and entertainment that kept the crowd smiling and dancing throughout the day.

“The Joyful Food Market Program is a wonderful opportunity to bring fresh food and nutrition education directly to our community. Seeing families come together, learn, and celebrate healthy living is truly inspiring. Our market team leaders and volunteers make this possible, and their passion creates a joyful atmosphere that uplifts everyone involved!”- Chanel Diggs, Interim Joyful Food Markets Operations Manager

Our Joyful Pumpkin Patch brought fall fun to the heart of Anacostia, creating a space for neighbors to share smiles and community spirit. We celebrated the strong connections between Martha’s Table, local vendors, families, and our amazing volunteers. A big thank you to everyone who helped make this celebration magical!
