From DC to NYC: Martha’s Table Community Advisory Council Takes on Hamilton in the Big Apple
At Martha’s Table, our dedication to community leadership drives everything we do to ensure our work is rooted in the strengths and voices of those we serve. Recently, we celebrated the remarkable efforts of our Community Advisory Council with a special trip to New York City to see the Broadway musical Hamilton. This trip highlighted a year of impactful collaboration and achievements.
Under the leadership of Family Success Manager Angela Draughn, the council serves as a vital link between community needs and the programming designed to address them. “The role of the Community Advisory Council is multifaceted,” explains Draughn.
“We brainstorm, develop activities, shape programming, and ensure we stay on course. It’s about understanding and responding to the community’s needs meaningfully. We act as a bridge between potential and impact, each member bringing unique insights to this process.”
Reflecting on the recent celebration, Draughn adds, “To honor the incredible commitment of our Community Advisory Council, we wanted to offer them an experience as exceptional as they are. A trip to see Hamilton was the perfect choice. The story of Alexander Hamilton, with its themes of resilience, determination, and leadership, resonates with our values at the Family Success Center. Watching the play together was a meaningful way to acknowledge the Council’s unwavering dedication to our community.”
Joyce Ford, a dedicated member of the Community Advisory Council and an upcoming poll worker in the election, shares her thoughts:
“Being a part of the Community Advisory Council has been fulfilling. I enjoy connecting people in the community to the resources at Martha’s Table and helping resolve their issues to strengthen our community. Watching Hamilton highlighted the power of leadership and determination, inspiring me in my election work and community efforts. I encourage anyone interested in making a meaningful impact to join us in building stronger communities.”
Draughn adds, “We believe our community has immense brilliance and big dreams for a better future. By working closely with our Community Advisory Council, we tap into this potential, making our programming more effective and providing resources that truly resonate with their dreams and aspirations.”
A sincere thank you to our dedicated Community Advisory Council members:
