On any given Wednesday evening, the Commons at Martha’s Table fills with laughter, music, and neighbors catching their breath after a long day. Healthy Happy Hour is a part of our Emotional Wellness programming and has become a space where wellness feels welcoming, and community comes first. This season, the gathering is growing even stronger through a special partnership with the Smithsonian’s Anacostia Community Museum.
While the museum prepares for an exciting new exhibition, the Anacostia Community Museum is bringing its Beyond the Exhibition: Growing Community Series into neighborhoods across Ward 8. Martha’s Table is proud to host part of this series during Healthy Happy Hour, creating new opportunities for creativity, learning, and connection.
Healthy Happy Hour has always been about more than a single activity. Each week, neighbors come together to enjoy fresh mocktails, nutritious snacks, gardening activities, and wellness experiences for all ages. By joining forces with the Anacostia Community Museum, the program now blends nature, connection, and culture into a space that already feels familiar and welcoming.
The partnership reflects a shared belief: community spaces should be places where people can learn something new, feel supported, and spend time together in meaningful ways.
The first ACM workshop at Healthy Happy Hour brought neighbors together for a hands-on floral design experience in celebration of Valentine’s Day. Participants learned how to select flowers, create balance in their arrangements, and design something personal to take home!
Families, friends, and first-time visitors filled the space, eager to create and connect. Tables buzzed with conversation as guests shaped their arrangements and shared stories. The workshop showed how creative experiences can turn an ordinary weeknight into something joyful and memorable.
Healthy Happy Hour continues to offer a calm and uplifting environment each week. Guests can sip refreshing drinks like mint lemonade or fruit smoothies, try new recipes prepared with guidance from Martha’s Table’s nutrition team, and explore activities that support both physical and emotional well-being.
With ACM’s Growing Community Series now part of the experience, participants can also engage in garden-based activities that foster wellbeing by connecting to nature. These moments remind us that wellness can be simple: sharing space, connecting to nature, and taking time to slow down.
