On January 16, 2025, an exciting journey began with the launch of the Barbers and Beauticians of the Future program. This innovative youth development initiative was designed to equip students with crucial knowledge, hands-on experience, and the confidence needed to thrive in the cosmetology industry. Just nine weeks later, we celebrated the graduation of our talented participants, who emerged with enhanced skills and a newfound sense of purpose as they embarked on their paths to adulthood.
One graduate, Ne’Kareo Rawlings, embodies the spirit and commitment we cherish in this program. He shared his experience, saying,
“The program provided me with valuable life skills and helped me create a vision for my future. I am grateful for the opportunity to have developed my skills and explored new opportunities in the barbering field.” -Ne’Kareo R.
His passion reflects the transformative power of our program, where exploration and creativity meet personal growth. Community Development Manager Keith Keys highlighted Ne’Kareo’s dedication, noting how he consistently arrived an hour early to help set up for his classmates. This level of commitment is what truly sets our students apart. Witnessing such engagement makes our work incredibly rewarding. Moments like these remind us of the potential that lies within our youth. Master Barber Instructor and Life Coach Marco Price Bey added,
“This group displayed remarkable fortitude and commitment throughout the course, demonstrating a clear desire to succeed. They were by far the best students I’ve ever had the privilege of teaching.” -Marco Price Bey
At Martha’s Table, we firmly believe that when young people are given the chance to explore their passions, develop their skills, and receive unwavering support, they can achieve remarkable things. The Barbers and Beauticians of the Future program is not just about training; it’s about building a community where students feel equipped to succeed. Erikka Carter, a parent involved in our program and an Early Childhood Education teacher, shared that her daughter Akkira has already enrolled in a hair academy at Iverson Mall. We are so proud to witness Akkire’s blossoming career!
Even after graduation, our students remain part of the Martha’s Table family. The connections they’ve forged and the lessons they’ve learned will stay with them as they continue their journeys. As we look to the future, we remain committed to nurturing the talents and aspirations of young people, ensuring they have the tools to navigate the challenges of early adulthood.
As we celebrate the achievements of our graduates, we are reminded that each story, like Ne’Kareo’s and Akkire’s, is a testament to the strength of community, support, and dedication. Together, we are building brighter futures, one student at a time.
