About It Takes a Village

It Takes A Village DC is a community-driven organization that aims to strengthen families and promote motherhood in the District of Columbia. They offer a variety of services and programs to support underserved individuals and families, primarily single mothers between the ages of 18 and 45 in Wards 7 and 8.

Their wraparound services include parent support, financial literacy, reentry and legal aid, mental health and wellness, job readiness and placement, and housing counseling. By addressing the root causes of family instability, they strive to break the cycle and empower communities by connecting, embracing, and supporting one another in the “Village”.

They plan to utilize Community Impact funds to expand the team by hiring a Mental Health Intake Specialist, Peer Facilitator/ life coach, and continuing to upgrade the infrastructure of the Parent Support Group.

About Martha’s Table Community Impact Fund: 
The Martha’s Table Community Impact Fund is a grant program that strengthens and amplifies the work of Ward 8 nonprofit organizations. This direct investment helps build capacity for organizations historically excluded from institutional philanthropy and whose leadership and staff reflect the demographic, composition, and lived experiences of the communities they serve. For the 2023-2024 grant cycle, grants of up to $15,000 in unrestricted funds were awarded to 14 organizations that were selected by a committee of 38 Ward 8 residents.
