Creating Possibilities

Leadership/Letter

Dear Friends,

Creating possibilities means translating concepts into action and delivering results.

I am proud that in 2023, Martha’s Table continued to honor our promise to our neighbors by turning dreams into reality.

I encourage you to read and explore our annual report to hear more about how your support as a volunteer, donor, and champion of our community helps advance our mission of supporting strong children, strong families, and strong communities thrive.

To ensure the continuous realization of our neighbors’ highest aspirations, Martha’s Table must invest in creating possibilities for those we stand with today and those we will stand with in the future. This means thoughtful investments in the staff and infrastructure of Martha’s Table so that we are better positioned for future growth and opportunities.

In 2024, we will:

  • Increase our impact by expanding the reach of our programs to neighbors where they are, in community.
  • Expand our work with older youth by taking 100 Global Passport students to Pennsylvania, New York, and Georgia.
  • Enhance our approach that centers on mentorship, healing, and wholeness for young people.
  • Continue our promise to our neighbors by advancing the strategic initiatives our neighbors gave us permission to pursue.
  • Inspire the team to innovate and deepen our commitment to continuous growth by equipping team members with the skills necessary to lead and manage programs and departments in an ever evolving and more complex environment.

As we step into the new year, we’re guided by our principles: equity is essential, our community knows best, and the resource landscape of neighborhoods matters.

Thank you for believing in our mission and investing in our work to achieve a Washington, DC where every person has the opportunity to thrive. We invite you to look back and celebrate with us on what has been accomplished and we welcome you to join us as we continue to expand the realm of what is possible for our children, families, and community.

Creating Possibilities

Quality Education

You cannot be what you cannot see.

To help expand the world of possibilities for our youth, Martha’s Table provides high-quality Early Childhood Education, investments in the future of young learners via the Dietra L. Ford Child Savings Accounts, and transformative experiences for older youth through our Global Passport program.

Martha’s Table collaborated with 20 leaders of community organizations that serve youth, parents, and 10 youth to co-design and launch our Global Passport program. The inaugural Global Passport trip brought 20 youth to Atlanta, GA, where they visited historical landmarks of the 1960s Civil Rights Movement, sites significant to the legacy of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Morehouse College, the Georgia Aquarium, the Coca-Cola Museum, and more. The majority of participants traveled for the first time and shared that the experience helped clarify their career goals and changed their definition of what it means to be a global citizen.

"The Early Childhood Education program at Martha’s Table is close to home and very resourceful. [It] has helped my daughter so much with her words. With her being born premature, I was told [there] was a high chance she’d need speech therapy, but after being at MT for a year her vocabulary had increased tremendously!" Ms. Edward, Early Childhood Education Parent

Discovering Support and Hope at Martha's Table

“Seeing Ms. Baines’ transformation through our Family Visiting program at Martha’s Table has been a heartening experience. Her strength, despite the obstacles she faced, and her unwavering love for her children, have not only inspired me but also everyone at Martha’s Table. It’s a privilege to support and witness the journey of such a resilient mother. Samantha’s determination and progress are a testament to the power of community support and the resilience of the human spirit.” -Miss Ida, Family Visitor
