Waters and Nathan to Host Fundraising Dinners

What began as a chance to push a local/seasonal agenda on an incoming administration has transformed into an annual fundraiser for the hungry. For the third year in a row, chef/activist Alice Waters and cookbook author Joan Nathan are organizing a host of intimate, at-home dinners to raise money for local charities. Jose Andres, who’s busy building an empire, has assumed honorary host duties this year.

Helping Out, From the Streets to City Hall

Richard and Linda Stover had more time on their hands after they stopped working. So they started working again — this time to help their community.

Through Ministries United South Central Louisville, which assists the needy with everything from utility bills to meals, the Stovers help collect and distribute food and clothing. “We’re more involved now because I have more time,” says Linda Stover, 65, a former retail sales associate. “My husband and I do a lot of volunteer work.”

Today, the First Family continued their annual tradition of service on the day before Thanksgiving at Martha’s Table, a community based non-profit organization in Northwest DC. The Obama Family handed out turkeys, pumpkin pies, stuffing and other groceries to families of the Martha’s Table community.
