September 15, 2025, marks the first National Clothing Insecurity Awareness Day, a day dedicated to shedding light on the millions of children and families in North America who face the challenge of clothing insecurity. While many consider food and housing, it’s easy to overlook how essential clothing is to our dignity and opportunities in life.
Martha’s Outfitters, located on MLK Jr. Avenue, is an innovative no-cost clothing boutique that serves as a beacon of hope, providing essential clothing support to residents across the District. Families can shop for professional attire and children’s clothing with dignity through Martha’s Outfitters!
Last year, we distributed an astounding 89,932 articles of clothing, providing an estimated $2.5 million in savings. However, these figures do not reflect the smiles, confidence, and renewed spirit of our neighbors who can now step into jobs or school feeling supported and valued.
Martha’s Table is committed to creating a vibrant, inclusive environment where every Washingtonian has the opportunity to thrive. But we can’t do this without your support! By donating your gently used clothing, whether it’s a cozy sweater, a pair of shoes, or a jacket, you are not just providing clothing; you’re playing a vital role in someone’s journey towards feeling confident and dignified. It feels good to know that your donations are helping to create a sustainable community where every item gets a second life.
Looking for a hands-on way to make a real impact? We’d love for you to join our family of volunteers at Martha’s Outfitters! There’s something incredibly fulfilling about sorting donations, organizing clothing, and assisting families in their shopping experience. Your time and energy can help make our space warm and welcoming, ensuring that everyone who walks through our doors feels respected and cared for.
So, as we honor this important day, we invite you to be a part of this meaningful mission. Together, let’s build a community that uplifts and supports one another. Consider donating your gently used clothing or volunteering with us at Martha’s Outfitters. Your kindness and generosity can light up someone’s life! Thank you for being such an important part of our community! Let’s make a difference together!
