Giving Thanks, Giving Turkeys: A Feast of Community Spirit

Last week, our community came together for one of our favorite traditions of the year, Thankful Meals, a lively celebration filled with good food, joyful moments, and a deep sense of connection. More than 1,000 neighbors joined us for a day that truly reflected the heart of Martha’s Table.

I was so excited to see all the smiles coming through the door and the great spirits; our neighbors were happy and thankful, and I couldn’t have been more overjoyed to see them in that light. – Johanna Williams, Deputy Chief of Staff

From the moment folks stepped in, the energy was electric. Our friends from the Washington Wizards, Washington Mystics, and the Wizards and Mystics Cheer Team filled the space with enthusiasm, laughter, and genuine community spirit. Their presence helped set a tone of celebration and togetherness that carried throughout the day.

The atmosphere was made even more festive thanks to thoughtful decorations and vibrant music curated by DJ Jealousy, who kept the beats flowing and the smiles bright. And then there was the unmistakable aroma drifting through the air, Chef JoJo’s cinnamon apples, warming the space with a scent that felt like a hug. It was impossible not to smile.

Marie Wood, a longtime volunteer, wearing her Martha’s Table swag socks, joyfully shared her gratitude while in line:

“Thank you so very much for giving us an opportunity to get food. Of course, that’s your mission. Although I volunteer here today, I’m taking the opportunity to get some fresh food for my family, so thank you very much!”

We want to give a special thank you to Monumental Foundation, Giant Food, and Capital One for helping make this event possible. Their support, generosity, and partnership helped us create a joyful experience ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday.
