Celebrating National Nutrition Month: 7 Tips & Takeaways for a Healthier Community

March marks National Nutrition Month, and we’re thrilled to celebrate by sharing simple, actionable tips and takeaways that can help you power your day and support your family’s well-being. Every month, thousands of neighbors visit our Southeast and Northwest DC locations to choose from a variety of fruits, vegetables, and other healthy food options. We believe that healthy food, supportive community, and joyful experiences create the foundation for lifelong wellness.

Here are some ways you can get involved and make nutritious choices this month:

7 Tips & Takeaways for a Healthier, Happier Community

1. Make nutrition fun for children

As a volunteer, you help spark excitement about healthy eating among students at our Joyful Food Markets in participating schools. By sharing nutrition tips, encouraging students to try fresh fruits and veggies, and making healthy choices fun, you’re helping to build lifelong healthy habits. When our children are healthy, everybody in our community can be!

It’s the healthiest option! Bless all the other organizations committed to making food accessible, but Martha’s Table is at no cost and is fresh. That’s something special.” -Kalik B. Joyful Food Market School Partner

2. Choose foods that power your day

Stop by Martha’s Table Markets to hand-pick fresh produce and nutritious pantry staples for your family. Stretch your food budget while fueling your health, no cost, just great choices!

3. Bring healthy food access to the community

When you volunteer with McKenna’s Wagon, you help deliver warm meals, sandwiches, and healthy snacks across DC, 365 days a year. Your dedication brings nourishment and hope directly to neighbors wherever they are.

4. Move your body, boost your mood

Join a Senior Fitness or Go-Go Fitness class, where neighbors of all ages and abilities come together to move, stretch, and build strength. Wellness is for everyone to enjoy the energy and connection!

  • Senior Fitness: Tuesdays at 10 AM
  • Go-Go Fitness: Wednesdays at 7 PM

5. Nourish your mind as well as your body

Join us for Healthy Happy Hour every Wednesday at 5 PM, enjoy mocktails, wellness activities, and special workshops that focus on mental and physical well-being. Try something new and connect with your neighbors in a supportive space.

Sign up for our upcoming gardening workshops in partnership with the Smithsonian Anacostia Museum.

6. Prioritize women’s health

Attend our Women’s Health Summit on March 28th for expert talks, nutrition sessions, and opportunities to connect with local resources. Celebrate and support the women in your life through learning and community!

7. Inspire change together

Share your healthy habits, favorite market finds, and wellness tips with friends, family, and neighbors. By coming together, we build a supportive, thriving community where everyone has the chance to live their healthiest life!

As we celebrate National Nutrition Month, we invite you to join us in the markets, at a fitness class, or at our upcoming Women’s Health Summit. Together, we can build a healthier, more vibrant community where everyone has the chance to thrive. Here’s to nourishing our bodies, uplifting our neighbors, and building a future where everyone has the nutrition they need to thrive side by side.

Happy National Nutrition Month from all of us at Martha’s Table! 💚
