As Martha’s Table marks 45 incredible years serving the District of Columbia, we’re reminded that our journey is defined by growth, evolution, and a commitment to ensuring every Washingtonian has the opportunity to thrive. Our upcoming Annual Benefit on Sunday, October 5, is a joyous occasion to celebrate these milestones and to honor the remarkable individuals whose dedication embodies the heart of our mission.
This year, we are privileged to honor three extraordinary community champions: Carol Thompson Cole, John Thompson III, and Poet Taylor. Each one represents the core values that guide our work: teamwork, respect, compassion, and accountability.
Carol Thompson Cole has spent decades shaping DC’s business, government, and social sectors, leaving a legacy that continues to inspire. From strengthening early childhood education to building powerful connections between business, government, and philanthropy, her work has opened doors for countless families and educators. As Tiffany Williams, Martha’s Table President and CEO, shares, “Carol Thompson Cole is a remarkable exemplar of how to effectively blend the best of education, business, government, and philanthropy.” At this year’s Annual Benefit, we celebrate Carol not just for her accomplishments, but for the way she has created pathways across the DMV and the nation for children and families to thrive for generations to come. |
John Thompson III, Senior Vice President of Monumental Basketball, brings the game far beyond the court by leading programs that connect Wizards, Mystics, and Go-Go players with the DC community. From wellness initiatives to neighborhood outreaches that touch thousands, he finds creative and meaningful ways for athletes to truly engage with the city. Founder of the John Thompson III Foundation and a former Georgetown head coach, he carries a legacy of leadership that runs deep in this city. Tiffany Williams says, “Coach Thompson brings a legacy of quiet, dedicated service that perfectly aligns with our values. He shows up and serves without a lot of fuss or hoopla but with real work and dedication. He perfectly embodies the spirit of men for others.” He may not be the loudest voice in the room, but his actions speak volumes, and every time he shows up, our community feels seen, valued, heard, and loved. |
Poet Taylor is pure energy wrapped in authenticity, the kind of person who can light up a room and still keep you on your toes. A radio personality, TV correspondent, and community cheerleader, Poet brings the party and the purpose. You might know her from Midday Shenanigans on WPGC 95.5 FM. At Martha’s Table, she is known for showing up big, whether she is emceeing an important event, running her legendary holiday toy giveaway, or rolling up her sleeves to get the work done. Tiffany Williams shares, “Poet is a true champion, always connecting us to new opportunities, promoting our work, volunteering, and rolling up her sleeves to do the work herself. She understands our mission and is an essential part of it.” Her joy is infectious, her passion is unstoppable, and her leadership inspires us all to bring our A-game for the neighbors we love. |
Our 2025 Honorees remind us of the powerful impact that comes from showing up for one another. Our annual benefit isn’t just any event; it’s a joyful celebration packed with connection, shared values, and the kind of energy that only happens when we come together with a common purpose. For 45 years, Martha’s Table has been proud to stand alongside neighbors and partners who are committed to creating a Washington DC, where every child, family, and community can thrive.
We want you to be a part of the fun. Whether by purchasing a ticket, sponsoring a table, contributing to our silent auction, or making a gift in honor of our inspiring honorees, your participation helps support programs that truly change lives across DC.
This celebration is about all we’ve achieved and the bright, bold future we’re creating together. We hope you can join us!
