Advancing Early Education Collaborative

The Advancing Early Education Collaborative, launched in 2022 with generous support from JPMorgan Chase, has concluded its three-year effort to strengthen the early childhood education workforce in Washington, DC.

Through the combined expertise of American University, LIFT-DC, Martha’s Table, and Trinity Washington University, 362 students advanced their education and careers with wraparound support, earning 74 credentials, 36 bachelor’s degrees, and 38 associate’s degrees. This partnership has demonstrated the power of collaboration to create economic mobility and strengthen early learning. The initiative sunsetted in June 2025, we look forward to sharing more about its lasting impact.

###

Advancing Early Education Collaborative is an initiative between American University, Trinity Washington University, LIFT-DC, and Martha’s Table.

The four institutions are partnering to build a strong workforce of adults who care, teach, nurture and advance children’s development. The initiative includes a seamless articulation of academic pathways across institutions and “stackable credentials,” starting with the Child Development Associate, or CDA®, and ending with a full bachelor’s degree from either AU’s School of Education or Trinity Washington University.

Now, more than ever DC families need access to early childhood settings, with qualified, effective, professionally credentialed teachers, versed in culturally responsive pedagogy, to support their children’s growth and development.

In the DC area, many young adults are interested in educational careers but are unable to afford college tuition. High school students may enroll in the CDA® Program at American University through this initiative, providing an accessible pathway towards becoming an education professional while pursuing a college degree.
