Youth Talent Showcase

Sunday, May 22nd  will mark the first day of the 2011 Communities for Public Education Reform (CPER) convening, located at the Hilton Alexandria Mark Center in Alexandria, VA. CPER supports the growing field of education organizing by providing grants and technical assistance to community organizations working to ensure that parents and students have a strong voice in shaping the policies that affect their public schools.

CPER presented the Martha’s Table Teen Program with the opportunity to showcase their talents in the opening-day “Youth Talent Showcase” event, addressing the theme of social activism. Two of our teens: Olayemi Olugbuyi of Bannekar Senior High School  and Martin Martinez of School Without Walls High School will perform, having dedicated the past three weeks to preparing spoken-word and A capella  performances to be debuted at Sunday’s Talent Showcase. Performances begin at 8:30 pm and we are sure that both Martin and Olayemi will do an awesome job!
