Keeping Our Communities Heart Smart

Keeping Our Communities Heart Smart

According to a 2017 study, heart disease was the leading cause of death in Washington, DC, mainly affecting lower-income individuals and people of color. In 2010, the CDC reported there were 580 preventable deaths in DC from heart disease, stroke, and high blood pressure. When the heart stops beating, essential functions fail almost immediately. Excellent heart health can prevent conditions such as coronary artery disease, high blood pressure, cardiac arrest, stroke, and other heart-related illness.

Along with our wellness classes, Martha’s Table hosts monthly no cost markets where neighbors can shop for fresh fruits, vegetables, and pantry items at our Commons headquarters along with our Lobby Markets at the Commons and the Maycroft open Monday- Friday 11 AM – 4 PM.
