Join us at our Grand Opening!

At 55,000 sq. ft. “The Commons” campus is the realization of a collaborative process between key community partners – Horning Brothers , the Horning Family Fund , Martha’s Table , and Community of Hope , designed to ensure the healthy development of children and their families of neighboring Ward 8 communities, Fort Stanton and Hillsdale.  The hub aims to advance positive outcomes for children and families by providing a welcoming and safe environment and offering comprehensive programming, including early childhood education, nutrition programs, parental supports, and emotional wellness, as well as out of school programs for children and youth. We can’t wait for you to visit us at The Commons!

Our Grand Opening will take place on: Saturday, June 23 from 12pm-4pm at 2375 Elvans Road SE.

Martha’s Table has always been guided by a responsive approach to community need. Our founder, Dr. Veronica Maz, listened to her neighbors on 14th Street NW and discovered that children lacked access to food after school. This opportunity to offer food support was at the core of founding  Martha’s Table and the nightly meal service. In response to the community, Dr. Maz also began an afternoon snack program and launched McKenna’s Wagon.

Now, Martha’s Table is a leader in expanding access to healthy, fresh groceries and offering high-quality education to young children. We are data-driven and remain advocates committed to standing shoulder to shoulder with our neighbors and their families. Our original mission of going where we can make the greatest impact still drives our work.

In 1980, we listened to our neighbors on 14th Street NW when they stressed a need for after-school snacks for children. Today, we’re still listening and expanding our reach to Ward 8 residents (we see these neighbors almost every weekday at Joyful Food Markets during the academic year). Through collaborative efforts with our new neighbors, we will work from an informed perspective to transform local challenges into opportunities for impact.

Our new facility- The Commons will be a community hub where families can access high-quality education, healthy food, and family supports. Want to learn more? Join us this summer! We are offering a wide variety of no-cost summer programs from Family Movie Nights to Daily Tours!

The Commons opens this month and will soon be followed by our new center in The Maycroft building on Columbia Road. Stay tuned for more Maycroft news later this summer! We look forward to furthering our mission at 2 new centers, where we will support every child with the opportunity for the bright future they deserve.
