Growing Together at the Commons

Growing Together at the Commons

Wow, what a turn out! We felt the love!

Thank you families, volunteers, and community leaders who joined us on June 28th for our One-year Anniversary Celebration at The Commons! A special thank you to our partners Community of Hope, the Horning Family Fund, and the Horning Brothers for working with us towards a shared vision to ensure all children and families in our community have the opportunity to thrive.

With a no-cost market and a recipe demonstration set up in the kitchen, community members flooded the lobby as volunteers prepped baskets filled with fresh produce. The crowd then streamed into the parking lot to enjoy plates of steaming hot meals prepped by the MLK Deli and Seva Truck. Our young people criss-crossed throughout the building, discovering the arts and crafts station, moon bounces, and basketball games; and tugging on their parent’s sleeve to take a photo at the Eagle Eye photo booth.

It was fun to hear the shouts of excitement when community members gathered for the raffle prize drawings. There were smiles on everyone’s faces as folks won prizes ranging from a flat-screen TV to a bicycle.

Outside on the terrace DJ Schemes was the first to inspire the crowd to put their hands in the air, followed by the East of the River Steel Band and MPD’s Side by Side band. Their instruments and music filled the building with life as we all danced.

We thank each and every one of you for believing in us, for building community and growing together here at the Commons.

Cheers to our first year!
