Pride on Display at Black History Month Celebration

In early March, Martha’s Table’s Healthy Start program held a wrap up celebration of Black History Month with a special student performance for parents and staff. Learning about African-American heritage and culture was a major component of our educational programming throughout February, and our students shared their learning through song, theater, and a video project. <<read more>>

Spreading Joy at 8 New Markets, Thanks to You

Since January 2015, Martha’s Table has partnered with the Capital Area Food Bank to run Joyful Food Markets, free monthly pop-up markets that bring fresh produce, healthy pantry staples, and hands on food education to elementary schools east of the Anacostia River. Last month, we opened eight additional markets, bringing our current total to 21Joyful Food Markets. Within two years, these markets will be in all 49 elementary schools east of the river, increasing access to fresh, healthy food for over 15,000 students and their families. <<read more>>

Fostering Community: Anacostia Outfitters Supports Local Artisan

After tending to a line of patrons, Ms. Malik straightens out her collection of bold, eclectic jewelry on the storefront table. She is set up at Martha’s Outfitters in Historic Anacostia, where she often sells her pieces. As a local boutique buyer and artisan, Ms. Malik has an eye for conversation-starting pieces, from delicate gold necklaces to chunky wood earrings. <<read more>>

Good Neighbor Spotlight: Elise Hoffmann and Chris Niemczewski

Elise Hoffmann and Chris Niemczewski are quite the team. The couple not only shares a love of hiking, traveling, and reading, but they are also in business together, running Marshfield Associates. Chris and Elise first came to Martha’s Table as hosts for our annual Sips & Suppers fundraiser. <<read more>>

An Open Book Foundation Opens Doors

Over a year ago, Martha’s Table gained a dedicated partner for its Healthy Start program: An Open Book Foundation!
