Healthy Start Students Assemble Toiletries Bags for Homeless Residents

This fall, hundreds of Martha’s Table supporters donated toothbrushes, dry shampoo, and first aid supplies for our city’s homeless residents. Children in our Healthy Start program then assembled these toiletries into care packages. After they collected items like deodorant, dry shampoo, and toothpaste into string backpacks, students crafted hand-written notes and drawings for each bag. “We’re taking care of them,” said 5th grade student Desiree. “They need what we need. They should get enough to be happy.” The packages will be distributed this holiday season from McKenna’s Wagon, Martha’s Table’s mobile food truck, which rolls out 365 days a year to serve hot meals, sandwiches, fruit, and homemade muffins to the city’s homeless and hungry at three downtown locations. Thank you to our wonderful students for taking on such a meaningful service project!

They need what we need. They should get enough to be happy.
