When Strangers Become Neighbors
Monday, October 31, 2022 at 11:18 AM
On Sunday, October 2, community members and local leaders convened for our 2022 Martha’s Table Annual Benefit. The event served as an opportunity to celebrate D.C. neighbors and community changemakers for their partnership in pursuing a shared mission of strengthening and empowering the community. More than 160 guests attended and heard updates on our 5-year community-led strategic plan from Martha’s Table Board Chair Ellis Carr and Interim President and CEO Tiffany Williams.
“We are thankful to our volunteers and supporters who join us in advancing our mission. Through our work together, we’re able to expand education programming to support children and youth from birth to adulthood. We meet pressing needs while supporting family leaders on their path toward economic security and prosperity. We partner healthy food access with physical and emotional wellness programming, including workshops, counseling, and art therapy…We support our neighbors through leadership and community-led initiatives.” Tiffany Williams, Interim President and CEO
Guests experienced a cocktail reception and mission-inspired program featuring powerful remarks from this year’s honorees – author, activist, and criminal justice reformer Tony Lewis Jr. and former Associate Judge for the District of Columbia Superior Court, Judge Mary Terrell. We thank them for their commitment to advocacy, social justice, and equality in the District and beyond. Radio host and longtime Martha’s Table champion Poet Taylor once again hosted our paddle raise, raising mission-critical funds for Martha’s Table programming.
A special thank you to our event sponsors Amazon, Bloomberg Philanthropies, Marshfield Associates, American University, CareFirst, Giant, Pepsico, RBC Wealth Management, Sandy Spring Bank, Saval Food Service, and Select Equity Group for their deep commitment to standing alongside D.C. neighbors.
During the Benefit, we premiered a video highlighting Martha’s Table’s robust programming titled Where Strangers Become Neighbors. We are excited to share this as a testament and witness to the work we do each and every day. We could not do this work without community members and their multiple roles to support Martha’s Table.
Thank you for being a part of our vibrant community at Martha’s Table and beyond! We have raised over $300K through Annual Benefit this year which will help to fuel our work, and we are so grateful for your continued and generous support.
