On Sunday, October 28th Martha’s Table celebrated Food Day 2012 in style with our partners Occasions Caterers and Les Dames D’Escoffier DC! Food Day is a nationwide movement for healthy, affordable and sustainable food. The family-friendly event was held at Occassions Caterers whose beautiful space provided the perfect setting for a day full of cooking, eating and community. The day kicked off with tropical smoothie making and apple tasting. (Did you know that apples are grown in all 50 states in the US?!) Guest Chefs Joan Nathan, Danielle Turner and Najmieh Batmanglij then guided participants through three healthy, delicious and quick recipes—pomegranate guacamole, for example. Participants had the opportunity to learn from top-notch chefs, and many of the kids proved to be adventurous eaters by trying new fruits and vegetables for the first time while tasting recipes. After our chefs wrapped up their lessons, the day closed with a colorful communal meal celebrating the fall bounty—think butternut squash soup and roasted fruits.
We learned, we ate and we celebrated with our community and partners. Martha’s Table would like to extend a sincere thank you to all those who volunteered and participated to a make a perfect Food Day 2012! When we started planning Martha’s Table’s milestone 40th Anniversary, of course we had no idea what 2020 would have in store. Through everything that’s happened this year, we’ve been fortunate to receive generous support from the business community, both locally and nationally.
