Driving Opportunity: How Martha’s Table and Vehicles for Change Are Creating Career Pathways

At Martha’s Table, we believe every community member has the skills and drive to achieve their goals. That’s why we’ve partnered with Vehicles for Change (VFC) to bring an innovative Virtual Reality Auto Technician Training Program to Washington DC.

Through immersive VR simulations and hands-on training, participants prepare for ASE certifications that open the door to stable, high-wage automotive technician careers. Alongside technical instruction, participants receive career coaching, job readiness workshops, wraparound services, and completion incentives that celebrate their achievements.

This program builds on the determination and potential of DC residents, creating career pathways that strengthen families and communities.

Why This Program Matters

The demand for skilled auto technicians is rising quickly. Between 2024 and 2028, more than 470,000 new technicians will be needed nationwide. The Martha’s Table and Vehicles for Change training program helps DC residents step confidently into this opportunity with relevant, in-demand, and future-focused skills.

Participants gain:

  • Hands-on automotive training preparing you for ASE certifications in Maintenance & Light Repair and Brakes

  • Career coaching and job readiness training

  • Up to $2,000 in completion incentives

  • Access to groceries, clothing, and wellness programs at Martha’s Table

  • A supportive learning environment built on collaboration and growth

Eligibility is simple: participants must be 18 or older, live in DC, attend weekday classes at Martha’s Table, and complete an interview and screening. No prior automotive experience is needed. Just commitment and enthusiasm to learn.
