#TakeoverTuesday with Chef Jojo
What’s up everyone? I’m Chef JoJo, a food educator on the Healthy Markets team at Martha’s Table; you might know me from your elementary school or have seen me on social media before! Today I’ll be showing you the behind the scenes of Martha’s Table’s markets program for #takeovertuesday! If you don’t already follow us on Instagram and Twitter, now is the time! Before lunchtime, I begin to collect my cooking utensils and prepped ingredients to pack into the van! This month, we are making a Kidney Bean and Sweet Potato Soup (be sure to check out Joyful Food Markets facebook page for the recipe). At the market, students and families can try our recipe of the month, as well as learn other healthy recipes from me and our #MTVolunteers!
After packing the van Dillon (a Market Leader) and I head out to Savoy Elementary & unloading begins!
While Dillion helps #MTVolunteers set up the fresh produce from the Capital Area Food Bank out, I set up the Junior Chef station.
Then orientation–this week I helped two Emilys from our friends at Optoro, who adopted the market at Savoy this year, prepare to talk healthy eating with our Junior Chefs.
As the market begins I start making banana apple & pear smoothies with the help of the students at Savoy.
Meanwhile, the volunteers from Optoro help families shop for groceries while getting them excited about delicious, healthy food!
After cleaning up at Savoy, Dillon and I head back to Martha’s Table HQ to store the excess groceries from the market.
The last thing I do is clean and sanitize all the utensils and cutting boards we use at the market, so we’re ready to go for tomorrow. Another day, another great Joyful Food Market!
