Support Family Literacy

05.13.2014

This week is National Children’s Book Week! And here at Martha’s Table, we are celebrating all week long with fun activities centered around the joy of reading. From writing their own books to dressing as their favorite characters, our students are enjoying bringing reading to life.

Just listen to what some of our 3rd and 4th graders have to say:

“Reading takes us on imaginary adventures.” – Takiya

“It helps my vocabulary and takes me places in the book.” – Marlenis

“Reading makes you smarter!” – Toccara

Recognizing that parents are the first teachers in a home, we will conclude our celebrations with a Family Literacy Night on Monday, May 19. We are inviting all the parents from our education programs to join us for a night of interactive workshops, food, give-aways, and fun activities to promote reading in the home. We will provide each student with a book to take home and enjoy with their parents. It is our hope that our students’ love of reading will be contagious, and parents will want to explore the pages of “The Giving Tree” or “Bridge to Terabithia” with their children outside of the classroom.

If you would like to donate a book to our Family Literacy Night, please click here to visit our Amazon Wish List. Donating is easy – simply select the book you would like to purchase and have it shipped directly to Martha’s Table!
