New Joyful Food Markets Expand Access to Healthy Food
This fall, we opened Joyful Food Markets in 10 new elementary schools east of the Anacostia River, bringing our grand total to 39 markets and reaching more D.C. children and families than ever before. At a Joyful Food Market, families shop for fresh produce and pantry staples at no cost. Meanwhile, our chef educators engage children in fun cooking lessons designed to get them excited about fruits and vegetables and build healthy habits for life. Kimberly, a parent and Joyful Food Market volunteer is especially grateful for these markets during the busy holiday season, saying: “I’m looking forward to the next market at my son’s school, so I can pick up vegetables to make side dishes for our holiday family dinners. My son is too—he’s always so anxious to get out there and cook with Chef Jojo!”
Your support has allowed these markets to flourish and expand year after year. From our shoppers, chefs, and team of Market Leaders, thank you for helping us spread the joy of healthy eating!
