Martha’s Table and Maret Students Collaborate to Support Community
Third graders from the Maret School in Northwest DC recently joined forces with Martha’s Table’s Pre-K3 students for one seriously awesome day of service.
The students worked together to assemble toiletry bags for local community members, filling them with soap, shampoo, and fresh wash cloths.
“It was important to me that both sets of students gain from this endeavor. This project is an example of both groups of young students learning about being global citizens and working to make a difference in their community,” says Tiffany Williams, Director of Martha’s Table’s Healthy Start program.
After assembling the bags of toiletries, the students distributed them by hand to shoppers at Martha’s Outfitters and the healthy mini-market in our lobby, and to our neighbors in the U Street Corridor.
At Martha’s Table, even our youngest students learn the importance of civic engagement. This partnership with Maret created an opportunity for students to learn from each other’s experiences, all while supporting the community they’re growing up in. That’s what we call a win-win!
