Chief External Relations Officer
Ryan Palmer leads the External Relations team at Martha’s Table, which is responsible for development and fundraising, communications, and special events, as well as government and community outreach and engagement. Ryan is a community advocate with 15 years’ experience working in partnership with youth and families in vulnerable communities. She began her career in the Early Childhood Education field, with a focus on quality improvement. As a law student, Ryan implemented peer mediation programs and facilitated Constitutional Law and Advocacy classes in Baltimore City Public Schools. She is a certified mediator who has mediated disputes at Baltimore City Small Claims Court and conducted truancy mediations in Baltimore schools. She completed a Clerkship in the Office of the Attorney General for the Maryland State Department of Education, and a Dean’s Fellowship at the University of Maryland School of Law.
In 2012, Ryan managed a citywide, grassroots political campaign that resulted in over 25,000 votes for first-time candidate AJ Cooper. In 2013, she was Program Manager for the Digital Media Academy, the inaugural youth program of the DC Promise Neighborhood Initiative.
Ryan previously served as Director of Grants and Communications at Excel Academy Public Charter School, DC’s first public school for girls. She is also the Founding CEO of Freedom Farms, an urban agriculture company with the mission of providing access to healthy food and sustainable workforce development.
Ryan holds a Bachelor of Arts in Linguistics from the University of Pennsylvania and a Juris Doctor from the University of Maryland School of Law. She is a Washington, DC native and a proud graduate of DC Public Schools.
